Mitchie U12 Yellow (click on photo to see a larger image) was born out of chaos really, a group of 9,10,11 and 12 year old girls. Strangers for the most part, thrown together with 2 clueless coaches, who inspired by the achievements of Pedr and the previous seasons U12 girls, thought ‘we can do that’ Right from the word go we spotted some great talent within the team and we thought that we could have a good season but we did not expect just how successful we would be.
After the initial new team wobbles we finally settled into a routine. Our training sessions became very enjoyable and the characters of all the girls shone through. A team spirit emerged very quickly hastened by our first game and first win. We then went on to win 8 out of 14 league games and drawing 1. In our biased opinion we think we would have won several more had it not been for injury and sickness at a vital point in the season but nonetheless a terrific result finishing a very creditable 4th and qualifying for the semi-final.
We came within a
whisker of winning the semi final game. Our goalkeeper touched the ball
about half a dozen times in the whole game with the majority of the game
being played in the opponents half, we battered them. Unfortunately at
the end of extra time the result was scoreless which meant the team who
finished higher in the league would go through. In this case, this was
not to be us. We still cannot believe we didn't win, each and every one
of the girls were fantastic and gave everything to get the goal that
would have taken us to the grand final but we guess we will save that
for next season now!
We
want you to all be proud of what you have achieved because we know your
parents and us as coaches are very proud of you. We'd like to thank
all of the parents for your dedication, support and assistance, without
you this season would not have been so memorable. We would like to
acknowledge the hard work of our manager, Shaandra Mason who has made
our lives a hell of a lot easier. Without her help we could not have
achieved what we did. A further thanks to Brenda, Pedr, Pa and Dale
from the club for your advice and support. Last but not least we would
like to thank the girls who have not only challenged us throughout the
season with each of their own personal flair but who really come
together as a team. It has been a pleasure to work with you, as novice
coaches we didn't really know what to expect, you made our jobs easy and
we hope to see you next year for another adventure.
Our last word of advice: if you were not able to make it to one of our
games make sure you do next season. The girls will display what they
describe as their Mitchie Haka!
Thanks again,
Martin and Dave
