Lighting Project Update - 17 June 2009 |
|
|
|
|
Wednesday, 17 June 2009 |
|
Our lights project will formally commence on Tuesday 23 June when footings for the four poles will be dug and the concrete poured. The poles are expected to arrive on site shortly after, or at the same time.
Work will continue for the rest of next week and the following week, which is the first week of the school holidays. Work will then need to stop for the second week of the school holidays because of the Southern Skies tournament. The following week, starting Monday 13 July, may require us to cancel all but Premier League team training as there will be only limited power each night. This will give the contractors every chance to complete the work as soon as possible. We would like to thank all members and their families for their patience and understanding during this large and important project.

We seem to be missing some of our alternate green playing strips. Can any teams who have “borrowed” these strips please return them to the club. We have a register at the club, so you can book them in and out as you need them each week. They are not to be kept by individual teams as we need to share them around – sometimes among the teams of two or three different age groups.

Friday, 12 June 2009 |
|
Earlier this year the committee advised the lighting project would commence in March. Regrettably this did not occur as the final approval for the project was not received from the State Government until 20 May 2009. After consultation with the contractors the committee is pleased to advise that work is due to commence on 22 June 2009. This date is dependent on the weather staying dry to allow heavy duty equipment access to the site. The work sites will have safety barriers erected to stop unauthorised entry. Coaches and parents are asked to assist by ensuring no children treat the work sites as "play areas".
Club members Greg Birnie from Hutchinson Builders and Paul Phillips from Watpac are both Contract Administrators for their respective companies and have volunteered to manage the project for the club. The club is appreciative and fortunate to have Greg and Paul's expertise available. There may be some disruption to training nights, however, this is expected to be minimal. When work commences, a weekly update will be posted on the club’s website.

Grass Roots Coaching Course Reminder |
|
|
|
|
Sunday, 08 March 2009 |
|
Football Queensland has introduced a new initiative from the 1st January 2009 whereby participants can now complete their Grassroots Football Certificate free of charge. The ‘Grassroots Football Certificate’ is a 3-hour course, conducted at our Clubhouse. The course aims to help grassroots coaches perform their role more effectively, by giving clear guidance on the nature of their role and the kinds of activities they should include in their training sessions with kids. This is an excellent way for beginner coaches to learn the basic ‘tools of the trade’ so that they feel more comfortable about teaching football to youngsters, and their players receive quality football experiences. All coaches who attend the course will receive the FFA’s new book, ‘Coaching Grassroots Football’ and an attendance certificate. It is recommended that coaches attending the course be 15 years of age and above so they can fully appreciate the content of the course.
Come along to Teralba Park this Saturday 14 March 2009, from 9am to 12 noon.

Football Director Greg Brown Information Update No.1 |

Hi everyone,
I would like to take this opportunity to
introduce myself as the new Director of Football at Mitchelton FC. My objective
is to formulate a coaching program that is user friendly and yet effective in
developing players as they move through the club. A Program that we can all
agree on and work together to implement.
I have been a full time coach in youth
development for the last 14 years after retiring from playing professionally.
In that time I have studied youth development here in Australia at the QAS and AIS in Canberra
and in Europe at the French Football Federation and at Clubs such as Manchester
United, Ajax, Chelsea, Club Brugge and Celtic. Please don't
be put off by that, because the message that the top clubs are giving, is that
there is a simple method in coaching young footballers that can be followed.
Over the next few weeks I would like to share those thoughts with you and
organise some coaches' workshops to discuss and demonstrate the kind of program
we are proposing for next season.
I would like to start with the coaches
and managers involved with next years 11-13 age group and later with the 14-16
age group followed by the Small sided games group in the new year.
The
date we are proposing for the first workshop is Sunday the 16th November at
Mitchie from 9.30-11.30 followed by some refreshments.
We will be indoors first of all to
discuss the program and then outside to do some practical work on the park.
Please come prepared to give your opinion on the program and to join in the
practical side of things, I promise it won't be too strenuous!
Please find attached a powerpoint presentation outlining
this proposed coaching structure. As I said the Program is intended to be
simple but effective and also measurable. We had our first Football Forum
recently where we invited all our coaches from the 2008 season. Feedback
from the coaches in attendance was positive. We’re looking to start
workshops as soon as we can organise coaches for 09. Those interested in
coaching should put their hand up now. I can be contacted on

BIG NEWS BIG NEWS BIG NEWS
The Department of Sport and Recreation has approved our
grant application for additional lighting at Teralba Park. We expect to
complete the upgrade before the start of next season. This will result in
the No.2 field being fully lit, this years’ Under 9 and Under 10 playing
areas fully lit and provision for future improvements to the No.1 field as
well. The Department of Sport and Recreation are investing $131,000 in
the Project and our Club $65,000. This is really good news for our Club
and we must thank the Department of Sport and Recreation and our local State
Member of Parliament Rod Welford. We’ll keep you informed of the
progress of the Project.
We have also been informed that we have received a
Department of Sport and Recreation grant to put together a Strategic Plan which
is also very timely. Our Management Committee will be hard at work over
the summer months planning for next season and completing these two
projects. Anyone who would like to be a part of these projects or find
out more information can contact us through this email address.
Coaching Forum
Greg Brown our Football Director wishes to invite anyone
interested in being part of the development of our Football Program at the Club

midgets to our Premier League teams. This is an open invite to any
coaches, potential coaches, players, ex-players or just interested parents or
supporters to come along and put your ideas forward. It is expected that
the Football Forum will meet approx. six times per year and act as a
co-ordinated group to improve the coaching and playing outcomes for our members.
