Mitchelton Women Set Their Sights on the Big Prize PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 16 January 2014

womannewitem The new season can't come soon enough for the ladies of Mitchelton Football Club, as they have their eyes on the big prize - a trophy to bring back to Teralba Park.

"Our re-development of women's football at Mitchie is in its final stages and we can't wait to get started," says Head Coach, Peter Hodgkin.

"Four years ago we set in place a plan to make Mitchelton the home of women's football in the North-West, and I believe we are nearly there. This year we hope to have at least five teams and over 100 ladies playing soccer."

Head Coach Peter Hodgkin has been involved in Brisbane football for a number of years and is proud to be taking Mitchelton into the elite leagues of women's football.

.

"The National Premier League has been introduced this year so is still in its formative stages meaning the Brisbane Women's Premier League (BWPL) will be the place to be," says Peter.

"There have been a number of changes in personnel at a number of teams so any one club could upset the traditional power houses of women's football. We will show respect to these teams, but we are out to win."

"We have an excellent structure here at Mitchie, we take care of our players and provide our elite teams with the very best we can offer. The facilities here have been upgraded and we have a committee that is passionate and supportive."

"On the field we now have a network of coaches that are there to encourage the very best out of our players. I am also pleased to announce that Zoe Bickerstaffe has been named Assistant Coach for the BWPL, with year of experience playing in Europe and having coached overseas and within Australia, I am delighted to have her by my side."

"Zoe has the passion and the drive to be the future of Mitchelton Football Club, and it shows how the club is supportive of bringing more females into top coaching roles. We are also delighted to have Jo Rogers take up the position of coach of our Division 1 team. Jo is an experienced coach at the elite levels of women's football in Brisbane and she will bring experience and knowledge to our set up. Her role will see her assist in developing young players and transitioning them from junior to senior football."

Pre-season training for Mitchelton Football Club started on Tuesday 14th January, 7pm at Teralba Park, Mitchelton. Any players wishing to join or trial for any team is encouraged to visit http://www.mtichiefc.org.au/ for more information.
