Mitchie Div 1 v Peninsula Power – Premier Cup Quarter final Game 10th July 2010:
The Mitchie girls embarked on a road trip to good ole Redcliffe over the weekend looking to fund their next social event with some premier cup cash – a win against Peninsula would ensure a place in the semi finals, and $200.00 worth of drinking money... I mean $200.00 worth of training equipment and other soccer-related paraphernalia! The night started well, with Tess providing the much-awaited tracksuits so that the squad could take to the warm up pitch looking pro! The illusion was short-lived however as the “premier league formalities” muddled our tiny brains and left us confused before a relentless Power crowd – seriously, if you want us to line up and shake hands with everyone al-la-world cup, you probably should tell us that before the game! But finally the whistle blew and the Mitchie crew were back in familiar territory on the pitch. Some sterling defence from the girls saw the home side easily frustrated, and at 0-0 mid-way through the first half, the panic was rising in the voice of the Peninsula coach. But the Div 1 domination was not to be; on 18 minutes a lack of communication from Channy saw the defence open up, and despite a fantastic dive from Rhiannon, Peninsula hit the net. Heads stayed high however and the green and gold bravely fought back, heading into the changing rooms 1-0 down at half time, after some strong chances in the attacking half. The final 45 kicked off in the same vein as the first, with battles being won and lost in the Mitchie defensive half. Strength on the ball from Tina and Crystal, and some confident headers from Kirra were not enough to keep the home side down as they found the net for the second time. The Mitchie girls showed the tenacity and resilience we have come to value in this developing squad and fought it out to the last, shocking the home crowd with their ability to compete at the highest level. A well-fought game with plenty of positives to be taken into the 1st v 2nd clash against Annerley on Friday night – well done girls!
Final Result: 0-2 loss
Player of the Match: Crystal – tagging an ex-Australia player is never going to be easy, but you NAILED it!
Blonde of the Match: Kelvin – come on Kelvin, you should know by now that we need specific instructions; “we are doing a walk on before the match” doesn’t stop us from being confused by pretentious pre-game processes!
Next game - Away on Friday night at Annerley
