Womens Division 1 Update
Wednesday, 01 September 2010
Mitchie Div 1 v Newmarket 28th August 2010:

A home game saw Mitchie take on bogey team Newmarket in front of the biggest crowd of the season. The girls couldn’t help but smile as the home crowd began to chant “let’s go Mitchie, let’s go”... and go they did! An all out attack against a depleted Newmarket side saw the visitors’ sweeper swinging from one side of the pitch to the other, and kept their keeper busy. But once again goals proved difficult to come by for Kelvin’s charges as shot after shot sailed wide or was picked up by the goalie. But the Mitchie girls were relentless and late in the first half a composed goal from defender Kirrily opened up the scoring. At 1-0 at half time, the familiar speech rang out, calling for more shots on target and greater control out of defence. A fired up Newmarket side took to the pitch in the second half, and things got nasty with Tess and Kiki hitting the turf hard as the away side struggled to obtain some dignity. Despite the Mitchie bench looking like a military field hospital by full time, a 2nd half goal sealed the victory for the home squad, closing the gap and putting the girls on the same points as 3rd placed Pine Hills (behind only on goal difference). Thanks to Maria for filling in, and to Brigid for an outstanding effort in goals, despite being injured.

Final Result:                        2-0 Win
Player of the Match:       Jen Roberts – I think we have found your new position; I’ve never seen you run so much! Lol great reading of the play, and fantastic delivery through the midfield.

Players and teams wanted for 5-a-side indoor soccer (futsal)
Sunday, 29 August 2010
Players and teams wanted for 5-a-side indoor soccer (futsal) at Hills District PCYC, Everton Hills.
The soccer season is nearly over.  Do you know any players that are passionate about their soccer and want to keep playing over the off-season ?  Futsal is great for their skills and they will have a ball !!
I have started up this new local futsal competition to give local players an opportunity to get involved in this great sport.  I am the current Queensland Under 12 State Coach and I have seen first hand how futsal can provide development opportunities for players who are passionate about the game.  Our club is affiliated with Football Queensland, this means that players are entitled to trial for representative zone (Queensland Summer Premier League) and State teams (to compete at the National Futsal Championships in Canberra in January 2011).
The Hills District PCYC is located in the heart of Arana Hills and is a fantastic indoor venue for Futsal.

Division 1 Womens Update
Wednesday, 25 August 2010

Mitchie Div 1 v Park Ridge - 21st August 2010:

The Mitchie girls took to the pitch,
With hearts strong, brave and true,
To show Park Ridge who is the best;
The green team v the blue!

Right from the start the girls struck out,
Attacking all the while.
Park Ridge had the bigger girls,
But Mitchie had the style!

The defence sat back and had a rest,
Coffee, tea and cake!
While the forwards had their work cut out,
Trying to find a break.

But goals were hard to come by,
And things were looking bleak,
‘Til Brigid hit the home-side’s net
To start the winning streak.

Three nasty tackles from behind
And Brigid hit the dirt.
No more goals from her today;
The star retired hurt.

The half time whistle sounded shrill,
One nil was the score.
Time for Kelvin’s half-time speech;
Girls, we need some more!

But the second half it went the same;
A mirror of the first,
One more goal just sealed the deal
And booked a finals berth.

Well done Mitchie! A 2-0 win,
A result that guarantees
Come finals time we’ll be top four...
WOOT WOOT GO B*TCHIE!!

Result:                                  2-0 WIN!  J
Player of the Match:       Jess: best game I have seen you play – fantastic tackles and great control through the midfield!

Womens Division 1 Update
Tuesday, 17 August 2010
14th August 2010 – Mitchie Div 1 v Pine Hills:

The Mitchie girls stepped out on Saturday night to the biggest home crowd of the season, taking on 3rd placed Pine Hills and looking to nab a top 3 finish. But defensive blunders by the sweeper early on saw the home side down 2-0 in the first five minutes and it was all catch up from there. Further unforced errors and missed opportunities in the first half saw the troops head into the change rooms 3-0 down at half time. It was a sombre event in the mitchie locker room and morale was uncharacteristically low for the young squad, as they took the pitch for the second 45. A gallant effort saw the girls draw the half 1-1, but it was not enough to save the match; 4-1 down after one of the poorer performances of the season .

Player of the Match:       Kirra – I believe the word for those headers you did is “FEARLESS”! Great defending! J
Season Outlook:               Heads up girls – with the run into finals that Pine Hills has (Annerley, Bye, UQ) 3rd place is definitely not out of reach, and one point from the next 3 games will see us into the finals.

Mitchie Womens Division 1 Update
Thursday, 05 August 2010

31st July 2010 – Mitchie Div 1 v UQ:

With just the bare 11 players in the change rooms half an hour prior to kick off, the Mitchie girls knew that they had a fight on their hands taking on 2nd place UQ with a depleted squad. But the dauntless charges took the field with confidence to show the home side what true team spirit is all about. Strength through the defence and an unshakeable faith in each other saw the green and gold in fine form, keeping Uni scoreless in the first half and generating some excellent chances in the attacking half. Not even the drizzle that greased the pitch was enough to dampen the enthusiasm as a fired up Mitchie squad took the pitch for the second half. But it wasn’t long before disaster struck; a poor refereeing decision saw UQ with a free kick on the edge of the penalty area and after a brief goal mouth scramble the home side hit the back of the net. Not to be outdone, the visitors went on the attack, pressuring uni further and further back into their own half, but to no avail. The equaliser remained elusive, and the score unchanged – an unlucky result despite a fantastic attitude shown by all.

Player of the Match:      Tess – what can I say? Brilliant game young lady!! J

Thanks to Hannah for helping out

Mitchelton Womens Div 8 vs Narangba Sunday 18th July
Sunday, 25 July 2010
It was a top of the table clash, Narangba just holding first place by 1 point. Needless to say we were keen to show them that it was not going to be an easy fight. But with a couple of weeks off the field and dwindling numbers at trainings, I felt we would have to be pretty luck to walk away with a victory against such a strong team. Well we brought our passion to the field today, I think that would be one of our teams strongest attributes, we give it everything. Narangba were quite lucky to slip one into the net during the first half, but that would be it. Our girls fought hard and completely dominated the Narangba team, but unfortunatly could not find the back of the net. Time and time again we threatened their goal, and the pressure was starting to show as Narangba continually gave away penalties. But to no avail, Narangba left 1-0, but surely they will be worried come finals, and we can walk away with our heads held high as we played a determined match. Lesson for this week, skill can only get you so far, guts and determination will get you over the line.

Mitchie Div 1 v Annerley Friday16th July 2010

After last weeks loss in the cup to Premier side Peninsula Power, the Mitchie girls were ready for the top of the table game with Annerley. The first 30 mins of the game were mainly played in the opposition half with a few sporadic attacks from Annerley. On the half hour a high kick from Annerley resulted in Rhiannon dropping the ball that then slowly rolled into an unguarded net, 1 nil to Annerley, this buoyed Annerley and led to a couple of corner kicks. From one of the corners a header looped over all our defenders and the goalkeeper, to again end up in the net. 0-2 at half time. In the second half a fired up Mitchelton team came out firing and attacked from the whistle, again most of the play was in the opposition half, and on 60 mins a hand ball in the box led to a penalty, Jenny stepped up and put it away 1-2, the next 10 mins saw attack after attack on the Annerley goal with shots from Brigid, Crystal, Bianca, Jenny and Tash all being blocked or going wide. With so much attacking we got caught on the break, but thankfully the woodwork stopped a third goal.
Result 1-2 loss.

Next game - Away on Sat 31 July at UQ

Mitchie Div 2 v Albany Creek Sunday 18th July 2010

This week in Div two we gained a long awaited win! On the unusually hot and sunny Sunday, Div two came out with the determination and presence of a team ready to kick some butt!  The first half began with a quick attack by the Albany Creek Ace, who blasted a shot right into our keeper who quickly smothered the ball. The game turned around quickly after that with constant attacking by the Mitchie side with great shots on goal by Rachel W., Rachel U., Maria and Tash. Our first goal by Tash kept the momentum going, and after a few turnovers a perfect volley from Tash, again, put the ball in the back of the net. With a 2-0 score at half time Mitchie began the second half with more control. Unfortunately, a shot from the top of the box found its way into the Mitchie goal. Fired up to keep our lead, the Mitchie girls pushed on with a couple more unsuccessful shots on goal. Then a massive clear by Albany Creek was narrowly missed by the Mitchie keeper to tie the game with 10 minutes to go. A messy corner lead to a near miss by the Albany Creek girls but the line was kept clear by great foot work from Rachel W. and Hannah who took some hard hits to keep the game at 2-2. Mitchelton, not wanting to lose such a great game, dug deep and with only six minutes to go and were able to pull ahead with a wonderful goal by Maria! Great defence from the back line in the dying minutes kept the win, and the Mitchie song was sung in change room for the first time! Great job girls, lets get ‘em next week!

Mitchie Div 1 v Peninsula Power – Premier Cup Quarter final Game            10th July 2010:

The Mitchie girls embarked on a road trip to good ole Redcliffe over the weekend looking to fund their next social event with some premier cup cash – a win against Peninsula would ensure a place in the semi finals, and $200.00 worth of drinking money... I mean $200.00 worth of training equipment and other soccer-related paraphernalia! The night started well, with Tess providing the much-awaited tracksuits so that the squad could take to the warm up pitch looking pro! The illusion was short-lived however as the “premier league formalities” muddled our tiny brains and left us confused before a relentless Power crowd – seriously, if you want us to line up and shake hands with everyone al-la-world cup, you probably should tell us that before the game! But finally the whistle blew and the Mitchie crew were back in familiar territory on the pitch. Some sterling defence from the girls saw the home side easily frustrated, and at 0-0 mid-way through the first half, the panic was rising in the voice of the Peninsula coach. But the Div 1 domination was not to be; on 18 minutes a lack of communication from Channy saw the defence open up, and despite a fantastic dive from Rhiannon, Peninsula hit the net. Heads stayed high however and the green and gold bravely fought back, heading into the changing rooms 1-0 down at half time, after some strong chances in the attacking half. The final 45 kicked off in the same vein as the first, with battles being won and lost in the Mitchie defensive half. Strength on the ball from Tina and Crystal, and some confident headers from Kirra were not enough to keep the home side down as they found the net for the second time. The Mitchie girls showed the tenacity and resilience we have come to value in this developing squad and fought it out to the last, shocking the home crowd with their ability to compete at the highest level. A well-fought game with plenty of positives to be taken into the 1st v 2nd clash against Annerley on Friday night – well done girls!
Final Result:                        0-2 loss
Player of the Match:       Crystal – tagging an ex-Australia player is never going to be easy, but you NAILED it!
Blonde of the Match:     Kelvin – come on Kelvin, you should know by now that we need specific instructions; “we are doing a walk on before the match” doesn’t stop us from being confused by pretentious pre-game processes!

Next game - Away on Friday night at Annerley

Women's Division 1 vs Park Ridge Saturday 19 June
Monday, 28 June 2010
On the eve of the Australia V Ghana game, Mitchie took on a Park Ridge side looking to turn round a first round defeat by Mitchie – and who had about as much hope as Australia did against Ghana! (jokes) The Mitchie girls were soon on the attack and shots from Kasey and Natasha kept the Park Ridge defence busy. On 20 mins Mitchie opened the scoring with a well placed shot from Natasha,  which was almost followed up 10 mins later by a goal mouth scramble from STAR STRIKER Collette; Jen Roberts swept up the crumbs expertly to make it 2-0 with a run and shot. At half time 2-0, despite Bianca’s professional dummy (AKA accidental air swing) in the Mitchie defensive half. The second half opened with a more determined Park Ridge chasing and tackling for every ball, an enforced change of goal keeper saw Rhiannon depart the pitch to be replaced by a nervous Kiki. Under strict instructions to “keep it away from me!!”, the defence held steady with the only vague threats to Kiki’s underwear coming from a corner and a long-range free kick, which sailed harmlessly over the bar. Mitchelton had less possession but still managed to create several good opportunities, and on 70 mins Brigid was on the end of a 5 pass move to place the ball in the far corner of the net to make it 3-0.  Full time score 3-0.
Woman of the match: Kiki – Nice work Kik-Ster... Keeper extraordinaire!

Women's Division 2 vs Bayside 19 June
Monday, 28 June 2010

In one of the best performances of the season our young Division 2 team just failed to hold out 3rd placed Bayside, eventually going down 3 - 1.  It was a courageous effort by the girls going in to the half time break up 1 nil after a great 15m strike from midfielder Leah Kleinschmidt.  Unfortunately the girls couldn't keep out Bayside in the second half but it was a great team effort to push one of the competition favourites (and Division 1 hopefuls) to the very edge.  A particular highlight was the ability to play possession football under extreme pressure. The confidence and technical ability of the team continues to grow each week and we look forward to the rematch later in the season.

Chicks Rule at Mitchie FC
Saturday, 08 May 2010

girlsChicks Rule - an exciting article detailing the events of the extraordinary Mitchie Women’s teams. Mitchie Magic – (in our case) spirited energy surrounding Mitchie women.

Yes We’re Back….. That’s right Mitchie women are back in their kicking boots, stomping their own Mitchie mark into the season and guess what - there are more of us!

Yes you heard right 2010 celebrates the largest number of players in the women’s competition for Mitchie. This season we field three (3) Junior women’s teams in the Under 12s, Under 14s and Under 16s age groups and four (4) Senior women’s teams in Divisions 1, 2, 7 and 8.

With high expectations from the players for the 2010 season we have been lucky to gain the leadership of Kelvin Wheeler (Division 1), Peter Hodgkin (Division 2), Rachelle Huggett & Lily MacDonald (Division 7), Mark Robertson (Division 8) Mylo Ward (Under 16s), Noel Lord (Under 14s) and Pedr Kilpatrick (Under 12s) with further bench support from the Managers – Wendy Him, Marnie Marchesi, and Kylie Jenkins.

Whilst a rainy start to the season (with many games being rained out) all teams have displayed the makings of seven strongly united, occasionally cohesive, always brilliant, Mitchie spirited teams. One things for sure, each player brings their own bit of magic to stick it up them that green and yellow!
